Ex-intelligence boss to testify

THE national prosecuting authority says it could close its case before the end of the week if it is satisfied with former national intelligence coordinator Barry Gilder's evidence.

"After Gilder's testimony, we will make a decision on whether it is necessary to call more state witnesses," said NPA spokesperson Mthunzi Mhaga yesterday.

Gilder will start testifying in the corruption trial of former national police commissioner Jackie Selebi in the Johannesburg high court today.

This comes after a failed bid in the Constitutional Court by his former employer, now known as the State Security Agency, to stop him from testifying, arguing that intelligence information could be compromised.

Gilder will testify about an intelligence report, which allegedly carries details about Selebi receiving bribes from Brett Kebble. - Dudu Dube
