TWO men were shot - one dead - by the police in separate incidents at the weekend. Mahindra Pehari, 37, of Lenasia was shot dead when he "opened fire" on traffic officers who tried to stop him. Metro police spokesperson Wayne Minaar said: "The officers tried to stop him after he failed to stop at a stop sign on the N1, but he drove on. This led to a speed chase to his house in Lenasia.
"He drew a gun and started shooting at the police, who returned fire, killing him."
In another incident two men tried to rob a couple at a park in Ennerdale. One suspect was shot in the buttocks by the police when he drew a gun.
The suspect was taken to hospital under police guard and the second suspect was arrested. - Dudu Dube and Sapa
