Villagers up in arms about councillor

HUNDREDS of disgruntled residents of GaKuranta village in ward 26 of the Greater Letaba municipality in Limpopo have accused local councillor Florah Kgamedi of avoiding meeting with them.

HUNDREDS of disgruntled residents of GaKuranta village in ward 26 of the Greater Letaba municipality in Limpopo have accused local councillor Florah Kgamedi of avoiding meeting with them.

The residents said they had invited Kgamedi to a meeting on Sunday, but she had allegedly turned them down.

Group spokesperson Madikana Rasets said the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the allocation of RDP houses in the village, the distributions of food parcels and other government benefits.

Villagers claim these services are given exclusively to ANC members or to the councillor's friends and relations.

He alleged that Kgamedi had also failed to ensure that the paving of a 1,5km road in the village was carried out properly.

In her response Kgamedi told Sowetan she had never refused to meet the community but they had not wanted to listen to her when she asked them to move the meeting date since she had political engagements on Sunday.
