Suzuki makes its mark with the SX4

A JAPANESE car manufacturer entered the South African market in 2008 as the underdog.

Though Suzuki is a big brand elsewhere in the world, little was known about it here.

But so much has changed since 2008. Today Suzuki has made its mark and is respected in the market.

Suzuki has demonstrated its strength since its return.

One of the first cars that Suzuki brought to SA was the SX4. The car has received a facelift and was launched in Hartbeespoort last week.

The SX4, according to Suzuki Auto SA, is a crossover vehicle with hatchback and 4x4 qualities.

Demand for innovative, crossover motoring solutions has increased substantially - and the Suzuki SX4 is a perfect example of a compact, well packaged crossover vehicle with strong lifestyle appeal.

Like the outgoing model, the SX4 has strong qualities of a Suzuki.

The SX4 bears a modern look and design, greater levels of style and comfort and improved overall refinement.

This crossover has an even more striking appearance and numerous under-the-bonnet revisions.

The addition of the All-Wheel Drive model is likely to become one of the line-up's strongest selling points, according to Suzuki.

As one of the most affordable four-wheel-drive vehicles on the road, the Suzuki SX4 AWD benefits from the all-terrain confidence delivered by its All-Wheel Drive (i-AWD) system.

The signature feature of i-AWD is a switchable three-mode 4x4 system that delivers superior all-wheel traction when required.

4WD Auto mode can be engaged at the press of a switch, which apportions most of the torque to the front wheels.

Under normal driving conditions, the drive train feeds torque through the front wheels alone in the interests of low fuel consumption, brisk acceleration and a high degree of operating efficiency.

Under the bonnet of the SX4 is a 2,0-litre petrol in both manual and automatic gearbox, which produces 112kW of power.

The SX4 is fitted with MP3 CD playback functionality and speed-sensing volume control.

Standard across the SX4 range are ventilated front and solid rear brake discs. These are controlled by ABS anti-lock control, combined with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Emergency Brake Assist.

Electronic stability programme (ESP) with traction control are standard on the SX4 AWD model.
