royal battles

THIS will be a night for SuperSport United to remember since they will clinch their third Absa Premiership title on the trot at Super Stadium.

THIS will be a night for SuperSport United to remember since they will clinch their third Absa Premiership title on the trot at Super Stadium.

And their supporters might as well come with champagne to celebrate Matsatsantsa's achievement. Top musicians such as the sultry Chomee and HHP will also be there to make the atmosphere electrifying.

United's triumph tonight will see them matching the record of their bitter cross-town rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Brazilians, who will have to be content with being runners-up this season, won the championship in 1997-98, 1998-99 and 1999-2000.

It's not that United's opponents tonight, Bidvest Wits, will not give their all in this contest, it's just that coach Roger de Sa does not appear to have enough in his arsenal to overcome a marauding side of United's stature. At least not at this stage of the season.

What could Wits tryat Super Stadium that they hadn't at Milpark, where United defeated them 2-1 in the first round?

Gavin Hunt's side are also known to be unwelcoming at the Atteridgeville venue, though they don't have an intimidating crowd like Bloemfontein Celtic.

Though United publicist David Skosana was understandably coy on talk about winning the crown tonight, he was quietly confident.

"I can't talk about winning the league (tonight) because the game of football is full of surprises.

"We will be playing here against a capable team and we can end the match on the losing end," Skosana said.

Yet Wits have looked ordinary of late, after a great start to the season. This has coincided with a dip in forward Calvin Kadi's scoring form.

The Students are scrapping for survival. Unfortunately, they can expect little sympathy from the likes of Daine Klate, Anthony Laffor and Elias Pelembe, who have been known to send shivers down the spines of their opposition.
