Five years young, MTV Base is kicking off the new decade by shaking up its on-air ID while refining and refocusing its programme schedule to mark a bold new era of music television in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Viewers tuning in to the channel from yesterday have noted some dramatic changes, with new graphics, a bright contemporary colour palette, a fresh and modernised MTV base logo, awesome CGI channel idents and a revolutionary onscreen content navigation guide.
MTV Base's on-air changes will be complemented by the introduction of two must-watch new music shows, African Allstars and MVP: Most Voted Playlist, as well as a new reality series, Eddie Griffin: Going for Broke.
Having premiered last night African Allstars is going to air every day at 9pm, paying tribute to the infinite richness and diversity of contemporary African music.
It will break down borders by mashing up popular sounds from across the continent, including hip-hop, Afro-beat, Afro-pop, kwaito, boomba, kuduro, R&B and soukous.
MVP: Most Voted Playlist hands the MTV programming reins over to the viewer, ensuring that one whole hour of the channel's playlist is chosen by genuine, all-out music fanatics.
