ANDILE Ncube, the likeable former Live music show presenter, is to lose his job as a breakfast show host on the Eastern Cape-based SABC's Tru FM.

ANDILE Ncube, the likeable former Live music show presenter, is to lose his job as a breakfast show host on the Eastern Cape-based SABC's Tru FM.

In a radical move the station is set to axe six of its employees next month, and Ncube, pictured, tops the list. A source said Ncube, Boozie Mabona, Phiwe "Pastor" Nozewu, Elvis Mali, Xola Stefaans and music compiler NoGolide Ntlokwana will all be dropped at the end of next month.

Ncube joined the station in a blaze of publicity two years ago after being head-hunted from SABC1.

A source said Ncube did not live up to expectations and the hype. The source added that he was arrogant and refused to move to the Bisho studios.

Ncube declined to comment yesterday saying it was none of S owetan 's business.

Station manager Thobeka Buswana could not confirm or deny the claims that Ncube's contract was not going to be renewed. She said the station was "scheduled to announce a new DJ line-up at the end of March".

According to the South African Advertising Research Foundation, the station's listenership has dropped by 90000 since September 2008 to 367000 listeners.

A year ago it had 413000 listeners.
