THE Festival of Fame, presented by the National School of the Arts, is back. The annual festival encompasses a wide variety of programmes that include workshops, art, dance, drama and music.
The festival, which is in its ninth year, takes place at the National School of the Arts, the Alexander Theatre and t at the Johannesburg Civic from March 15 to 22.
The six-day event will showcase the talent of young people, up-and-coming stars and established artists.
It will also give wannabes an opportunity to engage with professional artists.
Festival director Sonja Burger says: "Starting last year, we have added our own festival fringe events in the evenings to accommodate more audiences, and this allows for more experimental theatre, poetry and more cutting-edge content."
The programme features outstanding productions such as The Butcher's Brother; Stilted; One Woman, One Show; Eight O'Clock and Vimba Juvela.
Acclaimed actor Rob van Vuuren will give the festival's lineup a boost.
The department of arts and culture will hold a daily interactive workshop featuring director Helen Eskander and actors James Cunningham, as well as Keren Tahor in Jutro.
Followers of the famous Sarafina can look forward to NSA's new and vibrant version of the show.
The new Sarafina will be directed by Kebu Mwale and will dazzle theatre lovers.
The festival will also feature The Rock Star, a musical explosion of hits.
Art exhibitions will be held at the NSA Gallery, together with a photo workshop.
Tickets are available at the festival office at R60 or R50 a learner for block bookings by schools.
