Mokoena, Schillo get royal invite

BAFANA Bafana and Portsmouth captain Aaron "Mbazo" Mokoena and his compatriot Steven "Schillo" Pienaar of Everton have been formally invited to attend a reception hosted by the Queen of England and the Duke of Edinburgh tonight.

BAFANA Bafana and Portsmouth captain Aaron "Mbazo" Mokoena and his compatriot Steven "Schillo" Pienaar of Everton have been formally invited to attend a reception hosted by the Queen of England and the Duke of Edinburgh tonight.

Also invited are new West Ham attacker Benni McCarthy, Fulham's Kagisho Dikgacoi and Leeds United and Kaizer Chiefs legend Lucas "Rhoo" Radebe.

Radebe spent more than a decade at Leeds and is still held in high regard at the Yorkshire club.

Mokoena and "The Chief" - as Lucas is popularly known in Leeds - are also official ambassadors of the England 2018 World Cup Bid.

The reception, to be hosted at Buckingham Palace in London, will host a total of 200 invited guests and is being held in advance of the forthcoming state visit by President Jacob Zuma to the palace.

Zuma will stay in the UK from March 3 to 5. The president is also expected to visit Wembley Stadium during his stay in London.

South Africa has a long history of exchanging state visits with the British monarchy. Former presidents Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki visited the UK in 1996 and 2001 respectively.
