Exams proceed smoothly

MATRIC rewrites have been going on without any major problems.

The Department of Basic Education says it has been receiving regular updates from provinces on progress and so far no serious irregularities have been reported.

Exams started last Monday and will end on March 25.

Yesterday candidates wrote English paper 1. Today they will write geography theory paper 1 and geography map workpaper 2.

Department spokesperson Granville Whittle said the marking of the Grade 12 supplementary exams would start after the last paper is written on March 25.

Whittle said pupils who passed the exams would be able to apply for the mid-year intake programme that some tertiary institutions offer.

Whittle said the results would be released on April 30.
