THE DA has suspended its shadow minister of police Dianne Kohler-Barnard after she allegedly yelled "f... you" at ANC members of Parliament during a heated meeting.
The DA's announcement came less than an hour after ANC chief whip Mathole Motshekga said the DA must "publicly denounce filthy-mouthed Kohler-Barnard for bellowing unprintable obscenities in the National Assembly".
The incident took place on Tuesday during a walkout staged by the DA and Cope.
The two opposition parties were angered that Parliament's deputy speaker had told Cope MP Mluleki George to leave the house after he refused to withdraw his statement that President Jacob Zuma was leading South Africa to lawlessness. According to the ANC, Kohler-Barnard yelled "f... you" at ANC members as she left.
She has been suspended for five working days and will be back in Parliament next week. The DA's Ian Davidson said Kohler-Barnard promised to make a full apology to the National Assembly.
He urged the ANC to discipline its own members in future when they made "libellous, racist and defamatory" statements.
