Education to get R165bn

Total education spending in the coming year would be R165billion.

Total education spending in the coming year would be R165billion.

An amount of R2,7billion was allocated to the Department of Basic Education over the next three years to provide workbooks in all 11 official languages for pupils in grades R to 9.

The workbooks would help teachers map out daily plans, and guide them on the effective use of the curriculum.

Another R28million would be provided for annual assessments of literacy and numeracy at the key stages of grades.

An additional R9billion would be provided over a three-year period to improve the teachers' salaries.
