A TOTAL of 15 stadiums, including one private college, have been confirmed as official training venues for the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
This was after the facilities, which have all been refurbished to meet Fifa requirements, were inspected by representatives of the Local Organising Committee.
Johannesburg tops the list with four facilities.
The venues are Dobsonville Stadium, Rand Stadium, the University of Johannesburg Stadium and St Stithians College in Sandton.
Cape Town, which hosted a successful final draw on December 4 last year, has been allocated two facilities in Athlone Stadium and Phillippi Stadium.
Sowetan has been reliably informed that Sugar Ray Xulu and Princess Magogo stadiums will be the official training venues for Durban.
Durban-based soccer legend Cedric "Sugar Ray" Xulu is over the moon that the stadium named after him will also be an official training venue for the World Cup.
"It's a great honour for us and good for the development of the game in Claremont and surrounding areas that some of the best soccer players in the world will be here with us.
"It is good that township stadiums will also benefit," said Xulu, who is involved in the development of the game in KwaZulu-Natal through the legends structure.
Moving to Port Elizabeth, it has been decided that Galvin Dale and Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University stadiums will be used in that part of the country.
Polokwane has one - the old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The nearby Seshego Stadium was dumped because only four World Cup matches will be played in Limpopo.
KaNyamazane Stadium, where the likes of David "Going Up" Nyathi and Richard Thwala first made a name for themselves in local professional football, will be used in Nelspruit.
Mogwase Stadium has been chosen for Rustenburg, while the Central University of Technology will be the official training venue in Bloemfontein.
Meanwhile, team base training venues include the Pilditch, Laudium, Olympia Park, Ruimsig, Milpark and Kimberley stadiums.
Orlando Stadium will be used only for the Fifa festival in June.
