Opposition slam speech

OPPOSITION parties yesterday questioned President Jacob Zuma's integrity as the head of state, saying the public has lost confidence in him.

The leaders were speaking in Parliament during the debate on Zuma's State of the Nation Address on Thursday.

DA parliamentary leader Athol Trollip said Zuma had eroded the respect given to him by the electorate, while Cope's Hilda Ndude accused Zuma of "shattering" people's hopes.

"President Zuma is too distracted to provide any kind of leadership. Today anything goes. The high moral standard of Mandela and Mbeki is no more," Ndude said.

APC leader Themba Godi said Zuma had to employ permanent people to head government departments, because those on short-term contracts were unable to stamp out corruption.
