16 officials at two games

SAFA Ekurhuleni's Castle League has been rocked by accusations of referee bribery and match-fixing as teams jostle for positions on the final straight.

Just this weekend, 16 referees and assistant referees arrived to officiate at two games - one game was played and the other abandoned.

On Friday evening Boksburg Guild were due to play Tin Cats at Reiger Park at 7.30pm and 10 match officials are reported to have turned up.

Jomo Ndlovu, a coach and official at Tin Cats, said the situation was sorted out only when the region's administrator, Job Mchunu, explained that only those whose appointment cards had an Ekurhuleni office stamp were authorised to officiate at the game.

The game between Watford Brothers and The Vardos was not played as neither party was willing to give in. Two sets of referees and their assistants turned up, one with the required stamps and the other without.
