THE Limpopo department of health will deploy 1500 emergency medical services personnel for the 2010 Fifa World Cup finals in Polokwane.
Provincial spokesperson Selby Makgotho said MEC Miriam Segabutla was delighted all the health operations as required by Fifa have been finalised and were being implemented.
Makgotho said the provincial medical operation centre for the World Cup will be based at the provincial headquarters.
He said the centre will be linked to the Peter Mokaba Sports Centre whenever Cup matches are being played at the new stadium. The centre will have a phone line, two-way radio, TV, laptop, emergency lighting system, fire extinguishers and first-aid equipment.
Makgotho said Limpopo's Provincial 2010 Fifa Health Committee members were also happy with all the preparations.
The committee has given the hospitals in Seshego, Polokwane, Mankweng, Lebowakgomo, Mokopane and Medi-Clinic a big thumbs up for the World Cup.
Makgotho said key facilities at their hospitals such as theatre operations, trauma centres and intensive care units had been checked.
"They will be ready to handle any casualty during the event. Mobile services include eight emergency response vehicles.
"The vehicles will be stationed at the stadium and fan parks. We will also have five disaster buses, five rescue vehicles, a helicopter and five mobile intensive care units."
The Diego Maradona-guided Argentina, Algeria, Slovenia, France, Mexico, Greece, Paraguay and New Zealand will be seen in action in Limpopo during the World Cup.
