Vaal Dam emergency on high alert

THE Emfuleni local municipality's emergency services will remain on high alert to provide the necessary support should the water levels in the Vaal Dam rise.

THE Emfuleni local municipality's emergency services will remain on high alert to provide the necessary support should the water levels in the Vaal Dam rise.

The municipality yesterday said the water level at the dam was decreasing.

Spokesperson Klaas Mofomme said: "Despite the dramatic decrease in the water levels, our emergency personnel will always be on high alert for the safety of our people and their belongings."

Another Vaal Dam sluice gate has been closed. This brings the number of closed gates to seven since Friday.

"Four sluice gates were closed on Tuesday. The Vaal Dam is now 103percent full, which is six percent less than the weekend levels. This is attributed to the water inflow, which has been on a decrease since Friday," Mofomme said.

The water inflow into the Vaal Dam is now at 388000 litres per second.

The flow has decreased by 612000 litres a second since Monday.
