In another twist involving the public protector’s office‚ the Minister of Co-operative Governance an.
A storm is brewing between the principal of Nakampe Primary School in Bolobedu, Limpopo, and the directors of BBM Contractors over the use of a new block of classrooms.
This was after the construction was completedmiddle of last year, but the contractors are allegedly reluctant to hand over the keys to the principal, which would help ease overcrowding.
The principal, Albert Matloga, said the school has repeatedly pleaded with the contractors to use the new premises, but they were reluctant to hand over the keys.
Matloga said a director of the construction company, known only as Masemene, was not cooperative when asked to explain the delay in handing over the keys.
"She is very arrogant and said I am too pushy when I called her to demand the keys for the new block," Matloga said.
The school has 407 children and only five classrooms and two mobile classrooms.
He said most of the classrooms were overcrowded and it was difficult for the teachers to do their work properly.
Matloga said the 15 teachers had to share one classroom because of the shortage of classes.
He told Sowetan that the contractors allegedly stole some building materials which were meant to build another block of classrooms before they disappeared.
He said the rubble, which includes bricks from the old block of classrooms that were destroyed before the builders started constructing the new classes, were still lying outside the new block.
Matloga said this exposed the pupils to danger such as snakes that might hide underneath the debris.
Spokesperson for the company Lyton Mphahlele said as soon as the building of the new block was completed, they approached the principal to sign a completion form so that the handover could take place, but that Matloga was not available on the day in question.
But, Mphahlele said they would visit various completed projects this week, including Nakampe Primary School, for principals to sign the completion forms so that a handover could be done by the end of this week.
