MTN Zambia is a unit of South Africa's MTN, Africa's largest wireless phone operator, which has more than 108million subscribers in Africa and the Middle East.
MTN is Zambia's second largest cellphone operator with a subscriber base of slightly over one million and 15percent of the market share after Zain Zambia, a unit of Kuwait cellphone firm Zain - with 78percent of the market share.
The government-owned Cell Z, a part of Zambia's only fixed line telephone operator Zamtel - which is being privatised, has 7percent of the market.
Khan said MTN, which had 700000 subscribers in April last year, increased the number to more than one million in October.
"In 2010 we would like to go closer to the 1,5million to two million subscriber mark and we think that's very achievable," Khan said. - Reuters
