Ekurhuleni in drive to revive night-game netball

THE Eastern Gauteng Netball Association has embarked on a development programme to revive the sport in the Ekurhuleni area.

THE Eastern Gauteng Netball Association has embarked on a development programme to revive the sport in the Ekurhuleni area.

They have introduced night league matches in the area, which will cater for both men and women.

The Eastern Gauteng Netball Night League starts at the Atlasville Netball Club in Boksburg on February 10 and is expected to attract more than 20 teams.

Cecilia Loots, one of the organisers of the event, said they were working closely with various stakeholders in Ekurhuleni.

"We want everybody, both young and old men and women, to have access to netball. Currently, we have 13 registered clubs but we expect more to join us now that we have engaged Sowetan to create awareness of the night league.

"We are targeting teams in Ekurhuleni but those in other parts are welcome."

Ekurhuleni has produced great netball players like Khali Mdluli, Tumi Modise, Nthabiseng Mbatha and Rusky Mthethwa. Mdluli is also the South African Under-21 national team selector. Teams interested in joining the new league should phone Cecilia on 084-686-8341.
