SOUTH African soccer icon Jomo Sono has tipped Argentina to walk away with the 2010 Fifa World Cup title when the final is played at Soccer City on July 11.
Sono said he was surprised that many local and global experts were writing off the Lionel Messi-led La Albiceleste, who have assembled a quality team.
The two-time world champions (in 1978 and 1986) have been drawn in Group B with Nigeria, Greece and South Korea .
The star-studded South Americans will be appearing in the World Cup for the 20th time and this will be their 10th consecutive appearance.
"It's strange that Argentina are out of the picture when experts predict the team to win the World Cup," Sono said.
"Forget about how they struggled to qualify for the World Cup. Forget about the coach (Diego Maradona), it's more to do with the players. Argentina have some brilliant players who have been together for some time.
"As a coach, you need players who will put the interest of the country first before theirs. Argentina have a team of players with big hearts.
"It's such a wonderful thing for Maradona to have great players like Messi, Carlos Tevez, Javier Mascherano and Pablo Zabaleta.
"My last cent is definitely on Argentina to win," said Sono, who was quick to point that Bafana Bafana will definitely not be a laughing stock in the tournament.
Sono was also impressed with a statement by Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira that about 70percent of the squad for the World Cup would be made up of PSL players.
"The coach must make the players believe in themselves. I have no doubt the team we have will go beyond the group stages.
"Bafana are going to surprise many people in the tournament. We are playing at home and the support base will be massive."
