THE letter written by Sandra Lamola dated February 1 2010 and with the heading " Mashatile and crew are greedy " is not only disappointing but mendacious.
The writer is using the media to lobby and demotivate another ANC member. This practice is prohibited and consequently ANC members cannot write to the media on preferences of leadership.
It is wrong for the writer to create the impression that there is competition and division between chairperson Paul Mashatile and deputy chairperson Nomvula Mokonyane.
There is no fight between the two leaders. They get their mandate from the ANC and have no distinctive views on issues. They work together well.
The leadership is united and cohesive on all issues. When leaders contest it does not really mean they are divided. It is part of the democratic process and this process is also in line with the ANC constitution.
The writer is engaged in refocusing our organisation and members to issues of leadership preferences for a conference that is still months away. In fact, it bring doubts to her ability to build the ANC. The issue of leadership will arise when the structures of the ANC have taken a decision.
The process for nominations has not even resumed, so we do not know whether the chairperson or deputy chairperson is standing to contest in the May 2010 provincial conference.
What is really sad is that the writer vilifies and assassinates the character of the chairperson. Leaders of the ANC must be equally respected. In the ANC we do not have David or Goliath. We have cadres who respect the values and principles of the organisation.
It is also fallacious and dangerous to brew stories without evidence.
