SAPS fuelling illegal firearm trade in SA

DIANNE Kohler Barnard of the Democratic Alliance says that 4000 new pistols ordered by the SA Police Service (SAPS) are "mostly to replace lost and stolen firearms". Now lets try and understand this.

The SAPS is fuelling the illegal firearms trade in South Africa, while the law-abiding firearm owner is being coerced into handing in his firearm, with no compensation, to this same department.

The citizens are enslaved by the Firearms Control Act, the police are exempt. So the criminals are being armed and the law-abiding, disarmed. The citizens are the employers of the police and hence pay for all their equipment and salaries, including the lost-stolen arms.

Something is wrong here.
