COMMUNICATIONS expert Mickey Modisane is leaving Orlando Pirates to take up a new position at the Local Organisation Committee.

COMMUNICATIONS expert Mickey Modisane is leaving Orlando Pirates to take up a new position at the Local Organisation Committee.

Sowetan can reveal that the Bucs' spokesman has been appointed competitions manager at Ellis Park Stadium, a 2010 World Cup match venue.

He will operate as competitions coordinator of the World Cup events at "Park of Pain".

His responsibilities include ensuring teams are taken good care of on arrival, dressing rooms are clean and grass is in good shape in terms of the Fifa requirements.

Modisane, who joined Pirates seven seasons ago from Safa where he was in the communications department, will start his new job today.

He had a meeting with Pirates' chairperson Irvin Khoza, who is also chairperson of the LOC.

Modisane confirmed he was going to the LOC.

"Yes, I can confirm that I'm leaving Pirates and I was seconded and I will be back after the World Cup. I discussed everything with the chairperson who gave me permission to assist the LOC until after the World Cup," Modisane said.

"We have already agreed (terms) with the LOC, I will start after the Soweto derby {February 20).

"It's a great honour to be part of the South Africans who are contributing to the success of the World Cup, we have to show the world that we are capable of hosting major global events."

Khoza could not be reached for comment.
