Stars players apologise for late return to training

THE four Platinum Stars players who were summoned to a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday have submitted written apologies to the coach and their teammates for returning long after training had resumed on January 4.

THE four Platinum Stars players who were summoned to a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday have submitted written apologies to the coach and their teammates for returning long after training had resumed on January 4.

The four senior players - Godfrey Sapula, Oscar Ntwagae, Lefa Mogaila and Daniel "Sailor" Tshabalala - got off with fines, and were expected to rejoin their teammates at training on Monday.

"The four players showed remorse and reassured the technical staff that they were still interested in playing football. They apologised for causing the team embarrassment and we now have to move forward with our preparations for the remaining league matches," said team manager Obed Legobate.

Still AWOL. Where is young midfielder Thabiso Monareng?

Legobate said there has been no word on Monareng's whereabouts since training resumed and coach Steve Komphela is also in the dark.

"I don't want to talk about Thabiso now because he is still to present his side of the story on why he did not report for training as scheduled. He was supposed to have joined us on Thursday last week but he didn't.

"I can tell you, though, that we are ready for our remaining matches and want to do well and make our supporters happy," Legobate said.

Stars are 10th on the Absa Premiership log and resume their league campaign against Ajax Cape Town in the Mother City on Tuesday.
