Welcome move

THE decision by Cricket South Africa to sack the Proteas selection committee for the national team is a bold and welcome move.

THE decision by Cricket South Africa to sack the Proteas selection committee for the national team is a bold and welcome move.

With the World Cup only 18 months away, now is the time to ring in the changes.

A trophy cupboard that has been bare for too long needed to be addressed and CEO Gerald Majola has taken the initiative.

The appointment of former captain Kepler Wessels to the selection panel is a step in the right direction.

Also known to be handy in the boxing ring, Wessels will not pull punches in attempting to put the Proteas where they belong - the No 1 team in the world.

Mind you, with scratchy performances over the past 12 months, changes to the team line-up need to be considered. An injection of new talent could be just what is needed.

Let's hope Majola, Wessels and interim coach Corrie van Zyl think likewise.
