MADLUPHUTU and Mzekezeke, the two top comedy characters who always have people in stitches with their sense of humour, are producing a new feature film that will hit the market during the World Cup.
The comedy film is aptly titled Vuvuzela 2010.
According to producer Sello "Chicco" Twala, who is fast carving a niche for himself with township comedy productions, the theme of his latest venture is soccer.
"We will start shooting on location in Mpumalanga and Gauteng," Twala says. "We chose Mpumalanga because of its rural setting and because of a language considerations.
"Township comedy has been mainly in IsiZulu, and not IsiNdebele and Siswati. Both languages are widely spoken in that region.
"This, I can assure fans, is going to be one of the most hilarious comedy productions ever to come out of the township."
The former bubblegum musician-turned film producer revealed a bit about the plot of the film.
"Mzekezeke is the owner of a soccer club in Mpumalanga, which is made up of disabled players. He takes the local football association to court to enable these players to play in the league of those who are able-bodied. Madluphutu is the ace striker of this soccer team," Twala says.
Twala, who sounds excited, says this production will be his big-screen debut. He is confident that, just like the Madluphutu DVDs that have sold well, this one will woo people to the cinema.
"We now know why a big number of people from the township do not go to the cinema anymore," he says.
"It is because the stories often put on the big screen do not reflect the daily experiences of the township people.
