Searching for youth with the 'X-Factor'

YOUNG people who possess the "X-Factor" are encouraged to enter this year's Boxer Superstores Youth LeadershipProgramme.

The popular event, now in its eighth year, takes place in April and youths from throughout South Africa and Swaziland can enter and stand a chance to be selected for this life-changing experience.

"We are looking for youth with the X-Factor," says Mzwa Khumalo, Boxer's Youth Leadership Programme team leader, who has coordinated the course for the past six years.

"The programme is specially designed to be fun but at the same time give the youth the opportunity to learn important life lessons and improve leadership skills," Khumalo said.

The Youth Leadership Programme takes place from April 5 to 10 at the Seula Zimbili Adventure Camp in Zinkwazi, KwaZulu-Natal.

Those selected will have a chance to take part in a host of fun and physically challenging tasks such as abseiling, rock climbing, fuffi-sliding and high ropes.

There are also a variety of talks and discussions on life skills, career opportunities and leadership.

As part of the selection process for the course, pupils between the ages of 16 and 18 are invited to take part in an essay writing competition.

Entrants should write an essay of no more than 500 words on the topic: "As a young person, how would you ensure that the gains brought by the Soccer World Cup are sustained and will continue to benefit Mzansi after the event."

The entry forms are available at any of the Superstores and 40 youngsters will be chosen.
