"The girl was outside the classroom at midday when a 25-year-old man shot her," Superintendent Mzukisi Fatyela said.
A 30-year-old clerk at Jongingaba Secondary School was also wounded.
Fatyela said there had been unconfirmed reports that the gunman was also killed.
"The school is in a very rural area and it's raining heavily. Our officers are on their way there. Once they reach the school, we will have more details of what happened," he said yesterday. - Sapa
