FOUR of the eight police officers on kidnap charges have fired their lawyer.
The decision by the officers - constables Patience Manganyi, Richard Maswanganyi, Mlindeni Mntambo and Elijah Ndlela - has forced the court to postpone the matter again.
The four and Captain Rosta Muthaphuli, Jane Mavuna and constables Gift Masheze and Mpumelelo Memela - and informant Albert Selepe - are charged with kidnapping, assault, armed robbery and theft of a motor vehicle.
It is alleged that Muthaphuli received a call from Selepe informing her about a Nigerian druglord operating at Maponya Mall in Klipspruit, Soweto.
Muthaphuli, Mavuna and Manganyi went to the mall and called for "back-up". The man, his wife and mother-in-law were allegedly kidnapped, assaulted and intimidated.
The nine are out on R5 000 bail each. The case was postponed to February 26.
