ANC Youth League president Julius Malema has welcomed the Local Organising Committee's decision to use the over-the-counter method to sell World Cup tickets from April.
"South Africans are passionate about soccer and using the Fifa website was not a good idea for many of our people who do not have credit cards," Malema said.
Other tickets are sold at selected branches of First National Bank, one of the official Fifa partners for the Confederations and World Cup.
"Fifa should have used a method that South Africans are familiar with, which is over the counter. More tickets would have been bought a long time ago," Malema said.
"We are happy that more South Africans in Umlazi, Mdantsane, Seshego, Nkandla, Galeshewe, Mafikeng, Mhluzi, Thaba Nchu and other areas will access them.
"Look at the Peter Mokaba Cup on Saturday. There were about 30000 tickets sold in two weeks because the over-the-counter method was used by the organisers."
