Danny K to display his poker skills

POP and R&B singer Danny K is the only celebrity who will participate in this year's Poker Champs Tournament at Montecasino in Fourways, Johannesburg, on March 26 to 28.

Born Daniel Koppel, Danny K also participated in the challenge last year in the same competition, though he did not win. Danny K, who has made a name for himself in the music industry, will compete for a R2million prize.

Taking place at La Toscana at Montecasino, the tournament will adopt the format of a No Limit Texas Hold'em, Freeze out.

The entry fee for the main event is R15 000 and entries are capped at 150 seats.

Adam MacIntyre, Montecasino tables manager, says: "At Montecasino we have won an impressive list of accolades, including best casino, best entertainment complex and best place to take out-of-towners over the past few years. This tournament will further entrench our status as the leader in gamer-tainment."

MacIntyre says they often include a celebrity who has an interest in poker to play in the final.

There will be satellite challenges every Tuesday at 7.30pm until March 25. There is an opportunity for players to earn their seats in the main event, especially those who have poker skills.

Danny K will not be doing this for the first time. He took part in the first-ever All Africa Poker Celebrity Charity Challenge which was sponsored by Piggs Peak Casino in Swaziland.

He beat many of the celebrities, including Leanne Manas, Sandy Ngema, Mark Fish, Kass Naidoo and Joost van der Westhuizen.

Danny K won and walked away with R100 000, which he donated to Compassionate Friends, a grief-counselling service in memory of his late brother.

He has also released albums that sell well.
