INSPIRED by Chipolopolo at the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola, Zambian side K Stars have vowed to start 2010 with a bang by winning the Gauteng Future Champions International Under-17 Cup.
This second edition of the annual 12-team tournament gets under way today at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto. It ends on Saturday.
K Stars media officer Erick Mwanza said: "The spirit is high in the team after the success of Chipolopolo in Angola and we want to win this tournament.
"We are honoured to be part of this tournament, considering that South Africa will be hosting the 2010 Fifa World Cup in the next five months."
Kaizer Chiefs, guided by Doctor Khumalo, take on South African Football Association (Safa) Tshwane in the opening match at 10am.
The tournament is bankrolled by the department of sport, arts, culture and recreation in Gauteng under MEC Nelisiwe Mbatha-Mtimkulu, which is using it to showcase its readiness for the World Cup.
K Stars are in Group B with SuperSport Academy, Paris Saint-Germain and DC United, while Group A will consist of Kaizer Chiefs, Safa Tshwane, Team Dublin and Shandong Luneng. Group C will include Safa Johannesburg, Esperance, Botafogo and Mumbai Challengers.
