LIMPOPO MEC for education Dickson Masemola has given the principals of two schools that produced poor matric results last year until close of business today to shape up or shi p out.

Masemola has ordered the principals of Madikwe and Alfred Makapane high schools, both in Mahwelereng, to compile turn-around strategies that will improve their performance this year.

He held meetings with managements of both schools behind closed doors yesterday.

"By the end of the day tomorrow I want your turn-around strategy on my desk in my office and failure to do so, go tla nkga go sa bola (hell will break loose)," a furious Masomola warned the principals.

The two schools produced pass rates of 19 and 17 percent, respectively, and were among the top 10 worst performing schools in the country.

Masemola said when submitted the strategies would be studied by curriculum advisers and other authorities to see if they could help improve the performances of both schools.

He said the department would send professionals to the schools to check whether they were complying with the strategies and give guidance where necessary.

Masemola promised to help the two schools, and others from other regions that did not perform well in the last year's matric examinations, so that they too could produce better results.

Two other schools in the same region, Itereleng in Vaalwater and Naletsana in Thabazimbi obtained a 10 percent matric pass rate last year.

Masemola earlier addressed about 1000 pupils and teachers at Ebenezer High School in Mokopane, which had produced a 76percent pass rate.

He will today address pupils and teachers at the Jane Furse Comprehensive School in Sekhukhune, where 52 Grade 12 pupils achieved a 100percent pass rate.

Some of the dysfunctional schools in the province are Kheodi High in Bolobedu, where 213 pupils sat for the exams, but only 22 passed, and Matome Modika, where 105 sat for exams and only 17 passed.
