It is D-day for failed matrics

CANDIDATES who failed matric have until today to register for supplementary examinations.

CANDIDATES who failed matric have until today to register for supplementary examinations.

Those who require a maximum of two subjects to obtain the National Senior Certificate can register for supplementary examinations this year.

Basic Education spokesperson Granville Whittle said: "We normally have between 120000 and 125000 candidates. Some of the candidates that register have passed matric but want to improve certain subject results."

If a candidate was medically unfit or absent from one or more external exam because of a death in the family they can also register. They must provide documentary proof stating the reason for their absence.

The exams start on February 15 and candidates can apply for registration at the school or centre where they sat for the 2009 end-of-year examinations. Whittle said that results would be released in April.
