BENNI McCarthy, Steven Pienaar and much-maligned skipper Aaron Mokoena are conspiring to make us raise our hopes.
After months of either bench-warming, near misses and average performances from the three they have suddenly sprung to life.
Mokoena has scored his first goal in the premiership. Benni was in inspired form, though he did not score, when his Blackburn Rovers beat Fulham at the weekend. Then Pienaar produced a world-class free kick, his second goal in two games, to nail his claim for Everton player of the season.
The three play in the spine of the Bafana team and as any amateur pundit will tell you, getting it right in that part of the field is half the battle won. With goalkeepers the least of our problems, who knows what these late bursts could mean for our team?
It might be too soon to start being hopeful, but what the heck.
