Safa warns Capricorn faction

SAFA in Limpopo has warned a faction in the Capricorn region to stop using the name of the national soccer-governing body for their own agenda.

The warning was made by the federation's Limpopo provincial representative, Lucas Nhlapo, in reaction to the Watson Mabusa-led disgruntled group that held a meeting at the weekend with local football associations under the name Safa.

This despite the fact that the Mabusa group was dissolved by the national office last month.

"It is the right of everyone in the country to hold meetings, but it is wrong to hold a gathering using the name of the association that you are not part of as was the case with Mabusa and his faction," Nhlapo said.

"These guys don't have the right to use the name of Safa when they hold their meetings. They have been dissolved and are not part of the association any more.

"We have an interim committee led by Abel Rakoma that has been put in place and we recognise only it.

"Anyone found to have used or to be using the name of Safa for his or her personal agenda will be dealt with accordingly.

"We cannot allow a situation in which individuals try to cause confusion within the federation. As far as the interim committee is concerned, it is doing well and I am confident that they will accomplish their mandate."

Mabusa said they cannot allow members of the Football Transformation Forum to kick them out of football.

"We do not accept the dissolution because constitutionally only the general council can dissolve a region," Mabusa said yesterday.

"We have resolved to take them head-on and if it comes to a push we are prepared to go to the highest court in the country to fight them."
