STAN Christodoulou has warned WBA Pan African bantamweight champion Bongani "Dancing Shoes" Mahlangu not to underestimate Wilson Asamoah on Friday.
Christodoulou represents the WBA in Africa. He was reacting to questions regarding the WBA's approval of the Ghanaian, who according to BoxRec.com has only one win against five defeats.
"Clearly BoxRec.com has not updated some fighters' records," said Christodoulou, who will be the fight supervisor.
"Wilson has about 14 fights. He has fought in many countries, including the UK recently. He is a competent fighter, believe me. Mahlangu must brace himself for war."
Mahlangu, from Boipatong, will be bidding for a third defence. This Johnny du Plooy-trained fighter has 11 wins (6 KOs) against two losses. The fight will be presented by Robs Promotions at the City Hall in Bloemfontein.
In the main bout Thabiso "The Rock" Mchunu will defend the SA light heavyweight belt against Reuben Groenewald. This fight will be televised live on Blow by Blow at 10.30pm.
l Tshifhiwa "Atomic Spider" Munyai will now defend the WBA Intercontinental bantamweight belt against Filipino Carlo Magale at Emperors Palace on February 27.
Munyai, the enormously gifted fighter from Makwarela, Limpopo, who is trained by Elias Tshabalala, will be bidding for a second defence of the belt he won in 2008.
He last fought in July last year when he stopped Ghanaian Galley Coedjoe in the first round.
His fight will be staged by Golden Gloves, whose publicist Terry Pettifer said Magale, 23, has 12 wins (6 KOs) against five defeats and a draw. The IBO mini flyweight title fight between Hekkie "Hexecutioner" Budler and Filipino Juanito Rubillar will top the bill.
In another title fight, Thomas "Tommy Gun" Oosthuizen will defend the WBA Pan African super middleweight belt against Zambian John Chibuta.
Flo "The Demolition Man" Simba will take on Stephen "People's Champion" Castle in the heavyweight division.
