POLICE confirmed yesterday that they had arrested a suspect after a man was shot dead in a dispute over a R2 coin on Friday night.
The man was shot during a game of snooker at a tavern in Thekwane South, outside Mbombela.
The patrons were playing snooker at about 10pm when a man who had put down a R2 coin to play snooker changed his mind and asked for a refund.
The man's opponent refused to give him a refund and this led to a heated argument.
The owner of the R2 allegedly assaulted his would-be opponent with a snooker cue.
The man being attacked produced a firearm and shot him more than five times. Another man tried to intervene and was also shot.
The two seriously wounded men were taken to the Rob Ferreira Hospital in Mbombela on Friday night. The one who had been shot more than five times was declared dead on arrival.
"I can confirm the shooting was related to a R2 coin that had been put into the snooker table," Nelspruit police spokesman Dawie Pretorius said yesterday.
"One of the shot victims died later while the other was admitted to hospital.
"We have arrested a suspect and charged him with murder as well as attempted murder."
The arrested man is expected to appear in the Nelspruit magistrate's court today.
