AN 18-year-old Grade 10 pupil has reportedly committed suicide on the opening day of school.
The body of Lucky Masango, of Extension 9 in Embalenhle township near Evander, was found hanging from a tree in a nearby park by a passerby on Wednesday morning.
Police found a suicide note in the pocket of the Isibanisesizwe Combined School pupil. It contained his name, his uncle's cellphone number and a message urging whoever found his body to alert his uncle.
Constable Sibusiso Mbuli of the Evander police station said Lucky used an electric cable to commit suicide.
Mbuli said an inquest docket had been opened.
Lucky's uncle, Fana Mtsweni, said he had shared a house with the 18-year-old schoolboy and his 13-year-old sibling since the death of their parents in 2006.
Mtsweni said he left the two at home at about noon on Tuesday when he went to work and they both appeared fine.
"I left them pocket money in the wardrobe for school the following day."
According to Mtsweni his nephew complained about being the oldest pupil in his class and "we had supported his idea of going to a technical school" .
"After the incident I went to his school and found that he had passed Grade 9 and was going to 10."
According to his brother Lucky bade him farewell shortly after I left and urged him to concentrate on his schooling.
"The little boy did not know that he was seeing his brother alive for the last time", Mtsweni said.
Lucky will be buried at the Pretoria Street cemetery in Witbank, Mpumalanga, tomorrow.
