TERRY Pettifer has warned that unless Stephen Castle's manager and trainer Peet Bothma comes down to earth, the proposed four-round fight between Castle and Flo Simba is off.
Pettifer is the fight publicist for Golden Gloves. Promoter Rodney Berman proposed that Castle and Simba meet at Emperors Palace on February 27.
But Bothma demanded more than double the purse money offered by Berman, said Pettifer, who would not reveal the figures.
Castle told Sowetan the fight must be worth his while.
"I retired last year so coming back must be worth my while," said Castle, who owns a box-exercise gym and restaurant. He said Simba was a nobody.
"He is just being over-hyped. Come on, he has only two fights - and against who?"
No one is willing to reveal the figures, not even Castle.
Pettifer said Berman was disappointed when informed of Bothma's "ludicrous" demands.
Berman said: "If that is their final word then the fight is off! I've been in this game far too long to be bullied into paying a preliminary fighter purse money that most South African champions would be more than satisfied with."
Simba is managed by the legendary Brian Mitchell.
