LIMPOPO education officials were left embarrassed yesterday when they failed to present the matric results to those gathered for the occasion.

They told guests that they were unable to present the results because the Department of Education's system had crashed the previous night. As a result, access to the results was blocked.

But it was too late to notify those invited for the prize-giving ceremony at Bolivia Lodge outside Polokwane and had started gathering early yesterday. This means that seven schools will only get the results today. At least 83350 pupils wrote matric exams in the province.

Limpopo recorded a 48,9percent pass rate compared with last year's 54,3percent.

Dignitaries, top achievers and their families gathered early for the traditional trophy and certificate handing- over ceremony.

It was a baptism of fire for new education MEC Namane Masemola, who had to explain that there were not results. Also embarrassed was Benny Boshielo, the new head of education. Guests included premier Cassel Mathale, Zion Christian Church leader Bishop Barnabas Lekganyane,

Masemola could not hide his disappointment. He said they were told incomplete results could not be released because the assessment marks had not been calculated due to a system blockage.
