'50 pilots to be retrenched'

FIFTY pilots stand to be retrenched as SA Airlink battles to keep its fleet flying.

FIFTY pilots stand to be retrenched as SA Airlink battles to keep its fleet flying.

Trade union Solidarity said yesterday the company was preparing to retrench the 50 after 14 of its airplanes were grounded in December.

"The retrenchments could affect more than 60percent of the 80 pilots of the airline's Jetstream J41 fleet," Solidarity spokesperson Jaco Kleinhans said.

The beleaguered airline had to refund passengers after the South African Civil Aviation Authority grounded the aircraft.

This came after a series of accidents over the past few months.

SA Airlink would neither confirm nor deny Solidarity's statement.
