THE distraught parents of the missing 10-year-old Soshanguve girl broke down yesterday when Tshwane executive mayor Gwen Ramokgopa and other community and religious leaders visited the family.

Masego Kgomo, pictured, of Block F West and a Grade 5 pupil at Dithabaneng Primary School, went missing on new year's eve and was last seen in the company of four young men in Block H in the early hours of New Year's Day.

Nono Albert Mathebula, 26, Joseph Legabutla, 19, a 14-year-old minor and Danny Chabane, 19, have been arrested but only the first three appeared in the Soshanguve magistrate's court on kidnapping charges on Tuesday.

Chabane was absolved but was kept in police custody for his own safety.

Following earlier threats by community members to attack Mathebula's home, police have been guarding the house since Tuesday. This was confirmed by Captain Solly Marindi.

During a short service at the family home, Masego's parents Kate and Joseph Kgomo broke down and the mother said the family strongly believed that wherever their daughter was, "she's still alive. I feel terrible because they (the kidnappers) do not want to take us or the police to her".

Kate could not understand why her daughter was kidnapped and she appealed to the kidnappers to return her unharmed

With tears rolling down her cheeks, she said: "if they (the kidnappers) wanted something from the family, why are they not saying it?"
