Paramedics hurt in smash

TWO Kwazulu-Natal paramedics were critically injured when their ambulance slammed head-on into a bakkie on Inanda Road near Hillcrest yesterday.

The driver of the bakkie was also seriously injured.

"The ambulance had been responding out of Hillcrest when the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a bend," said Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks.

"The ambulance slid into oncoming traffic and ploughed into the bakkie.

"The bakkie came to rest against a barrier with the driver trapped in the twisted metal. The emergency vehicle spun out, ejecting both the driver and passenger."
