An undying dream about an Aids cure

AS I sit to relay my message for the new year , I am filled with humility and gratitude that is beyond human understanding.

AS I sit to relay my message for the new year , I am filled with humility and gratitude that is beyond human understanding.

I simply appreciate that this column, the first of its kind in our country and indeed in Africa, will be celebrating 10 years this year.

What a remarkable accomplishment, I think to myself.

Yet I remain humble and more motivated to soldier on because the greatest prize for all persons living with HIV across the globe is a permanent cure for HIV and Aids.

Therefore, indulge me as I pursue my dream for a cure in my lifetime.

From that fateful day when I was diagnosed with HIV more than 18 years ago, I have always cherished the dream of a cure in my lifetime.

As a matter of fact, I have declared that when a cure is finally discovered I will allow all my detractors, the doubting Thomases, my enemies and the denialists' to be first in line as we desperately wait for our stained blood streams to be cleansed.

In prophetic terms, pronounced from a shameful sinner like myself, let it be known to you and let it be declared to the whole wide world that between 2010 and 2020 a cure for this parasitic and ruthless virus will be discovered. You heard me, we are entering a miraculous and historic decade in which HIV will be permanently removed from the blood streams of the infected and it will no longer kill and maim our children, our fathers and mothers, our relatives and even our enemies.

The coming decade will and must be known as the "decade of the cure for HIV-Aids". Yes, I said so.

This hopeful prophesy comes from an undying dream that a cure for HIV-Aids will be found in my lifetime.

My eternal spirit and yours must be revitalised and our collective burning desire to live a meaningful life must be intensified.

A life that is devoid of faith and belief is not worth leading.

Hold on, my dearest brothers and sisters, just a little while longer, for the end of the dominance and present danger of HIV-Aids will end within this decade.

I wish you and your loved ones everything of the best. Take care of yourself and each other.
