A MAN who opened fire on two people after an argument, injuring one and killing the other, has appeared in court.
Wilfred Mphahlele, 39, appeared in the Thabamoopo magistrate's court in Limpopo yesterday on charges of murder and attempted murder.
The shooting incident happened at Lenting village outside Lebowakgomo shortly after midnight on New Year's Day.
Police spokesperson in Lebowakgomo Captain Mamphaswa Seabi said yesterday a swift response by police had led to Mphahlele's arrest immediately after the incident.
Seabi said Mphahlele allegedly shot and killed Victor Mojapelo and injured another man who is still recovering from serious injuries at a local hospital.
"The information we received is that the deceased had an argument with the suspect before he produced a firearm and fired several shots at the victims," Seabi said.
Mphahlele appeared briefly in court yesterday and was remanded until January 14 for a formal bail application.
"As police we would like to warn people against taking the law into their own hands as their actions constitute a serious violation of the law of the country," Seabi said.
