Teachers scared

WITH only a week left before schools reopen this year, teachers at Modipe High School in Bolobedu, Limpopo, have expressed concern about their safety.

WITH only a week left before schools reopen this year, teachers at Modipe High School in Bolobedu, Limpopo, have expressed concern about their safety.

This after they allegedly received threats from the their principal, Solly Mawila.

The teachers said animosity between the principal and them began before schools closed for the holidays.

The principal had allegedly accused some of the teachers of secretly pressing charges against him to pave the way for one of them to be appointed to the position.

The teachers said Mawila, who is still facing criminal charges of intimidation in court, had allegedly victimised some of them during his visit to the school before they closed last month.

Mawila was arrested three months ago after he had allegedly threatened some of the senior members of the school's governing body in SMSes.

Some teachers have threatened to stay away from work if the department failed to protect them against Mawila.

Provincial education spokesperson Ndo Mangala advised the teachers to report the matter to the local circuit office.
