I AM writing to add my voice to previous concerns with regard to the Lotto and Gidani's way of doing business. This includes the uncertainty of South Africans about whether it is really true that it pays out or only Gidani workers win it for their greediness.
On December 31 I discovered that I had won the Lotto Plus with four numbers plus the bonus ball, and the amount to be paid was a lousy R2067. I went to Checkers to claim the prize, but I was told because of their payout limit I needed to go to the post office or Gidani offices in Bloemfontein.
So I decided to start at the post office and, to my surprise, I was told to go to Gidani's offices due to a technical error on the winning ticket.
I decided to go to Gidani's offices, where I met a lady who checked the validity of the ticket and then refused to help me because she wanted to go home at noon. It was only 11.20am.
She instead referred me to a restaurant next to their offices. But the owner refused to help me because she had no money to pay.
Secondly, the winning ticket had some printing technicalities that were supposed to be confirmed in writing by Gidani. So I have decided to keep my ticket until I speak to someone at the Gidani head office.
With this ordeal involving a claim of a lousy R2067 I am starting to wonder if there are really Lotto winners. I fail to understand why I was sent from pillar to post. What if I were claiming the jackpot?
I am really disappointed and I don't think I will ever play the Lotto again. I think Gidani is taking the people for a ride.
