Some go to the beach for a while and others just remain in the street partying to music at full blast, vuvuzelas blaring, buying liquor, regardless of age, from the two bottlestores that are open and drink themselves senseless.
Their behaviour gets worse the more liquor they consume. This year it has been made worse by the inclusion of firecrackers going off in Scott Street.
If you had to phone the Scottburgh South African Police Service for a reason why such mayhem is allowed you would be told that no crimes were committed and the crowds were controlled to the best of their ability.
Those of us living in flats in Scott Street have to put up with this horrendous noise.
Please pardon me if I sound like a racist because I am anything but a racist. There is a time and place for everything. I don't go raiding the townships drunk, my Mozart CDs at full blast, letting off firecrackers and frightening the local people nonstop for 12 hours, courtesy of the town mayor and the SAPS.
If people want to behave like barbarians they should stay at home. For it to be legal and acceptable to impose oneself and your drunken behaviour on local residents is a disgrace and a definite indication that the 2010 World Cup will be a disaster because "if you can't play nicely in your own backyard" you surely will not be able to do so when the visitors pay to join us.
